"Support rather than intervention" is winemaker Fiona Buchanan's winemaking ethos, allowing each Kotare Wine to reveal the qualities unique to its vineyard.

Fiona gained her Honours degree at Canterbury University and started her winemaking career in Marlborough then travelled to Napa, California, where she worked for two years. Returning to New Zealand, she spent two years in the northern winemaking region, Hawkes Bay, before resettling in Marlborough.

With her husband Hamish, they also have their own vineyard in the Blind River area of Marlborough.
